1) you are 70 years of age or more
2) have a homestead in Cumberland
3) have been a resident of Cumberland for at least 10 years
4) have a combined household income that does not exceed $75,060.
Maine offers tax credit for accessibility updates
Get help making your home safer for independent living! The AccessAble Home Tax Credit is a Maine income tax credit available to residents who earn $55,000 or less for expenses paid for modifications to their residence to make it accessible for a person with a physical disability or physical hardship who lives or will live at the residence.
The Maine Legislature enacted the AccessAble Home Tax Credit to take effect beginning January 1, 2017 for expenses paid in the 2017 calendar year. The credit is noted on 2017 tax forms filed with Maine Revenue Services in 2018.
Types of Projects: install hand rails or grip bars, widen doorways, build an access ramp, make tubs and showers safer, create an accessible parking space, etc.
